Girl Scout Sarah was hospitalized with Cancer at age 9. Staying close to her troop and selling cookies through it all helped her stay connected—and gave her the courage to launch a project that helps other sick kids feel less alone.
“Being a Girl Scout has always instilled a sense of teamwork in Sarah,” says Sarah’s mom. “She knows how important it is to try to help others and be a part of something and participate, even when you’re down.”
When no one else volunteered to lead the Girl Scout troop, Melanie stepped up for the challenge. That decision not only changed her daughter’s life, but her own.
“When I got roped into being a leader, I realized I was pregnant two weeks later with my third, but the other leaders at school gave me a ton of support.”
“We raised almost $2,000 in cookie money this year, and they literally want to give every penny to the children’s hospital…[the girls] are ready to take action at all times, and they’re just so sweet and so special.”
